Beloved wife of the late Gene R. Burnette. Loving mother of Ron (Kathy) and Nancy. Dear grandmother of Annie (Bob), Laura and Vivian and her beloved great grandchildren Matt, Joey and Michael. She was also a stand-in grandmother for Ellie, Madison, Renato and Serafina. Also survived by her niece, Vivian Yeager (Mike) and nephews Kurt Schwomeyer (deceased and family), Norman Schwomeyer (Kerrie and children) and Brad Rotert (Linda and family).
Miriam was born in Spiceland, Indiana, the 4th of five children to Orestes and Katherine Mote in a farmhouse with no electricity or running water. She graduated high school in 1943 and moved to the big city of Indianapolis joining her sister Katherine to work at Real Silk in the personnel department. Her co-worker told her she would set her up with her little brother as soon as he came home from the war. She married Gene Burnette in 1947 and they settled in Indianapolis where they raised Ron and Nancy. In a big move, they went West to Southern California where Gene was Director of Finance for Rockwell International (formerly Collins Radio). Miriam worked as a secretary in Human Resources for both Disneyland and St. Jude Hospital.
Gene and Miriam built their dream retirement home in 1982 at the base of Mount Shasta in Northern California. They remained there together until Gene’s death in 1988. She then moved back to Indiana and then later to Wisconsin to be near her kids and grandkids. Miriam finally moved to Ohio to be near her daughter and granddaughter’s family where she continued to volunteer and stay involved in her family’s activities. Miriam was an avid reader, consuming 2-3 books/week and loved completing crosswords. She was an excellent cook and will be especially missed in the kitchen during Thanksgiving turkey prep. She was a delight to everyone who met her, just the sweetest soul you could imagine. And the only time you’d get a side eye or cross look from her is if you forgot to pour her daily 5 o’clock happy hour wine.
Our family would like to especially thank her four in-home aides who provided the best and kindest of care to her and her family: Dianah, Tina, Aubree and Tammy. We are forever grateful for their love and attention to our dear mother and grandma. We are also thankful for the care she received from Hospice of Cincinnati. All of these caregivers are examples of true angels on earth. Also thank you to our friends who tried to ease our day to day, especially Giovanna, Kurt, Claire, Eric, Lisa and Cara. Thank you.
