Nancy J. Long

Nancy Jean (Barton) Long, 53, of Liberty Township, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly at her home on June 10, 2013. Nancy was born on August 23, 1959 in Chillicothe, Ohio, one of four children of William H. and Carol L. (Van Ordstrand) Barton. She was a 1977 graduate of Chillicothe High School, and a 1981 graduate of The Ohio State University, where she earned a degree in education. Nancy received her Masters Degree in school counseling from Xavier University in 1991. Nancy had a 30-year career in the teaching profession, and she spent 25 of those years teaching at St. Bernard-Elmwood Place City Schools in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was an inspiration to her students, and her love of learning will continue on in the lives of her students. Nancy wed her loving husband and high school sweetheart, Kenneth R. Long, on August 30, 1980. Together they enjoyed traveling, boating, and spending time with family and friends at their lake house. Nancy was the caring and devoted mother of their children, Leslie M. Long and Matthew A. Long. Nancy was a 30-year cancer survivor, and during her illness, she became an avid collector of Precious Moments. Her illness gave her a zest for life and a “more the merrier” attitude, welcoming everyone into her home at any time. In addition to enjoying spending time with family and friends, Nancy enjoyed reading a good book. She was a member of Liberty Heights Church. Nancy is survived by her husband, Kenn, her children Leslie and Matthew, her parents Bill and Carol Barton, her sister Ginny (Jeff) Meyer, brothers Bill (Roswitha) Barton and Joe (Michele) Barton, mother-in-law Jeannette (Jesse Chamberlain) Long, sister-in-law Lori (Larry) Schaffner, brothers-in-law David (Jill) Long and Jonathan (Donna) Long, and granddaughter Brook. She loved and was loved by aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Gerald T. Long. Visitation will be held Friday, June 14, 2013 from 5PM – 8PM at the Hodapp Funeral Home, 6410 Cincinnati-Dayton Road, Liberty Township, Ohio 45044. Memorial service will be on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 10AM at the Hodapp Funeral Home.
