Nicholas J. Tapay, M.D.

Nicholas John Tapay (Miklos Janos), M.D. passed away on May 31, beloved husband of the late Alice Ann Tapay (nee George), beloved father of Nicole Tapay, Tony Tapay (Rebecca Pearcy), and Bridget Tapay Yanez (Patricio Yanez), grandfather of Ariana Yanez and Zoli Tapay,  brother of the late Gabriella Marfoldi, brother-in-law of the late Mary Ellen Jones, and uncle of Donald and John Jones and the late Krisztina Marfoldi.

Dr. Tapay was born in Szombathely, Hungary on May 27, 1928 to Gabriella and Nicklaus Tapay. He studied violin at the Franz Liszt Academy and played in the symphony in Budapest before receiving his medical degree from the Budapest Medical University. Dr. Tapay fled Hungary after the Revolution of 1956 and pursued further medical training in the U.S. He eventually settled in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he served as a pediatrician and allergist until his retirement at age 70.

Dr. Tapay was a passionate student of Hungarian and European history and wrote many articles on these subjects, including a book on the 1956 Revolution. He also participated in volunteer medical missions overseas with SARA (Sharing America’s Resources Abroad).

Friends are welcome to attend a Mass of Resurrection, St. Vivian's Church, 7600 Winton Road, Finneytown, Ohio, on Saturday, June 10, 10:00am and the service of Catholic interment at 12:30pm at Gate of Heaven cemetery, 11000 Montgomery Road, in Cincinnati.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Crossroads Hospice.
