She was born Opal Lucy Drivere on March 31, 1918, in Gladwin, W. Va., the third of 10 children. The family moved to Farrell, Pennsylvania in 1924. Opal married Frank Sarcinella at St. Paul’s Parish on October 12, 1938. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage until Frank’s passing in 2001 at the age of 91. Opal is survived by two daughters, Janice Muia of West Chester, Ohio and Donna Verholek of Knoxville, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Chris, Marc and Matt Muia, Aaron Verholek and Heather Wood; six great-grandchildren, Claire and Olivia Muia, Taylor and Lauren Muia, Rhianna and Luka Verholek.
Opal was an active parishoner at Saint Paul’s Church and Church Of The Redeemer in Pennsylvania where she served as Altar Guild leader, Sunday School teacher and President of Episcopal Church Women. Frank and Opal moved to West Chester, Ohio with her daughter Janice’s family and joined St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in 1995.
One of Opal’s many gifts was the her creativity with ceramics. She has provided her family with beautiful creations that will be passed down between generations.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Decemeber 27, 2018, from 10 AM until time of funeral service at 11 AM, at St. Barnabas Church, 10345 Montgomery Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45242. Burial will then take place at 11 AM on Friday (12/28) at America's Cemetery in Hermitage, PA.
