WALSMAN, Fr. Paul (Arno), OFM, a Franciscan friar whose active ministry continued into his 90s, died on Monday, Nov. 13, 2017 at St. Margaret Hall, Cincinnati, Ohio. A native of Batesville, Ind., Paul was born Jan. 4, 1925, one of five children of Quirin J. and Lydia (Meyer) Walsman. After serving in the U.S. Naval Air Corps with the rank of Ensign from 1943-1946, he entered the Franciscan Order in 1949. His varied ministries included pastoral assignments in Arizona and New Mexico, Director of Formation, Vocation Office team member, Hospital ministry, Office for Senior Friars, and even though retired, preaching around the country for Food for the Poor. Preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Howard, and a sister, Mary Helen, Fr. Paul is survived by his classmates, Fr. Tom Speier, and Fr. Frank Geers, his brother Robert, of Batesville, Ind., and his sister Barbara Ernstes, of Greensburg, Ind. Fr. Paul's body will be received at 5 p.m. at St. Clement Church, Cincinnati, Ohio, on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017, followed by the Funeral Liturgy at 7 p.m. Burial will take place on Friday, Nov. 17, at 10 a.m. at the Friars Plot at St. Mary's Cemetery in St. Bernard.
