Richard John Colvin, a resident of Mason, Ohio,  was born in Shaker Heights, Ohio in 1927.  Since 2002, Mr. Colvin was an Arbitrator, serving on the National Panels of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, the American Arbitration Association and was a Fact-Finder/Conciliator for the State Employment Relations Board, Ohio Roster of Neutrals.


Dr. Colvin died on Friday, August 12, 2016.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marilyn Jean (nee Christman) who died in 1997.  Survivors are his daughters, Ann C. Colvin of Clearwater, Florida and Beth E. Sonnenberg (Rev. Douglas W.) of Liberty Township, Ohio and three grandsons, Scott Sonnenberg of Henderson, Nevada, Craig Sonnenberg of Columbus, Ohio, and Michael Sonnenberg of Detroit, Michigan.  His parents were Clifford Willis Colvin and Margaret Teresa McVeigh Colvin.  His parental grandparents were Arthur Edwin Colvin and Louisa Hare Colvin; his maternal grandparents were John McVeigh and Margaret Fisher McVeigh.



Visitation will be held at Hodapp Funeral Home, 6410 Cincinnati-Dayton Rd., Liberty Twp., OH 45044 on Friday, August 19, 2016 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.  Funeral service will be held at Bethany United Methodist Church, 6388 Cincinnati-Dayton Rd., Liberty Twp., OH  45044 on Saturday at 10 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church.


He was graduated from Ohio University with an A.B. Degree and was later awarded the degree of Juris Doctor from The Cleveland State University, Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.  He taught Labor Relations and Contract Administration at The Cleveland State University and was a recognized expert in the Collective Bargaining Process and Human Resource Policy Development.  He was a certified Senior Professional in Human Resource Management.  He also served as President of Colvin & Associates, Inc. after retiring as Director of Labor Relations for the Associated Industries of Cleveland, Ohio.



Dr. Colvin was a veteran of WWII and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant and later commissioned as an Officer the Army Officer Reserve Corps.


He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Liberty Township, Ohio.  He was a member of the Masonic Order and in 1999 was elected Worshipful Master of Hudson Lodge 510, Hudson, Ohio.  He was also a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.


Dr. Colvin never lost his interest in learning.  He was an avid world traveler, a student of ancient history and of the Latin and Greek languages.
