Robert F. Schmitz

Robert “Gome”, 76, beloved husband of Sylvia (nee Studer), devoted father of Michael (Susan), Steven (Linda), Diane (Randy) Voet, Scott (Molly), Greg (Nicole), Daniel and Tracy (Brian) Seng, grandfather of 10, great-grandfather of 1, passed away Wed, Feb 16. He proudly served our nation as a Marine before returning home to serve his community for more than 30 years as a Cincinnati Firefighter. Upon joining the CFD, his Marine Corps days would earn him the moniker that would stay with him for life, Gomer. When not raising his kids, fighting fires, leading a scout troop, singing barbershop or mentoring Young Marines, Gome would be busy making plaques, rocking horses, and nativity scenes with a skill matched only by his ample generosity. Friends, family and the many lives he has touched will be gathering at Hodapp Funeral Home 6041 Hamilton Ave., College Hill Monday, 4-8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial St. Clare Church 1443 Cedar Ave., College Hill Tuesday at 10 am. Donations may be sent to Cincinnati Young Marines and St. Clare Church.
