Robert Furman Knapp

June 16, 1931 — January 3, 2015

KNAPP, Robert Furman, beloved husband of 60 years to Betty Mae (nee Marcum), passed away peacefully on January 3, 2015, at the age of 83. Loving father of Tami Mahler, Diane (Kenny) Hennings, and Daniel Robert (Ellie) Knapp. Preceded in death by infant son, David Robert Knapp. Adoring Grandpa of Sarah and Adam Mahler, Anthony and Ashley Hennings, Talia, Laura, Krista and David Daniel Knapp. Preceded in death by parents Furman and Anna Knapp, and sister Patricia. Also, survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Bob was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on June 16, 1931. His family relocated to Cincinnati at the young age of 8 and settled in the Pleasant Ridge area where he attended Pleasant Ridge school, and then on to Withrow High School graduating in 1949. He then entered the Army during the Korean Conflict where he served 2 years. He was employed for 43 years at General Electric in Evendale where he mastered his craft as a Welder becoming a Welding School Instructor and then into Welding Lab Development. During his time at GE, Bob was named Chairman of the Cincinnati Chapter of The American Welding Society. Some of Bob's interests were photography, reading, nature, including trees, animals, birds and traveling the United States to just about all the National Parks. He was also an avid fisherman and motorcycle (Harley-Davidson) enthusiast. Bob was a devout member of St. James Episcopal Church for 50 years and was involved with various groups including Building and Grounds. As an animal lover, he cherished his favorite pet dog, Kricket, always at his side. He also treasured his numerous trips with Betty, family, and friends to his favorite vacation spot, The Great Smokey Mountains National Park. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Hospice of Cincinnati for their tender loving care of Bob over the last several months. Visitation at St. James Episcopal Church, 3207 Montana Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45211, Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until funeral service at 11 a.m. Donations may be made to Hospice of Cincinnati, St. Rita's School for the Deaf or St. James Episcopal Church.
