February 8, 1929 — November 15, 2018

PINGLETON, Robert Herman

Robert Herman Pingleton, known to friends as "Bob" and to siblings as "Herman," passed away at the age of 89 in Hillsboro, OH on November 15, 2018. Beloved husband of Velma Mae Pingleton (nee Croley). Loving father of Gary (Teresa) Pingleton, Rhonda (the late Jonathan Baker) Pingleton, and Linda (Andy) Stoothoff. Dear grandfather of Jason, Cassie, Zachary, Rachel, Mason and Grace. Dear great grandfather of Victoria and Kaylee. Caring brother of Jim Pingleton, Geraldine Hymer, Pauline Malicate, and the late: Opal Davis, Sherman Pingleton, Oscar Pingleton, Gladys Cullers and Margaret Day. Robert is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He resided in Lynchburg, OH with his wife, Velma, next door to his son, Gary, and family since 2007. In his last few years he was lovingly assisted in his daily needs, especially by his dear daughter-in-law, Teresa, granddaughter, Rachel and family. Robert was a native of Berea, KY and raised his children primarily in West Chester, OH. He retired from Ford Motor Company after 30 years of faithful service, teaching his children a strong work ethic. He was a member of the Freemason brotherhood and served his country in the Army as a Corporal. His service included tours in Hawaii and Korea. He adored visiting with and having long reminiscent conversations with relatives and friends. He loved the physical work of gardening and produced delicious tomatoes and apples which he generously shared with everyone.  He is remembered for his enjoyment of music, collecting coins, watching basketball, baseball and boxing. He was an avid drag racer in his younger adulthood, and excelled at maintaining and repairing many car engines throughout his lifetime. He had a sweet tooth for the countless pies & desserts made by his wife and good cooks in the family. He happily passed this trait on to his children. He was dearly loved by many children from his neighborhood and extended family. He was known for his sweet, generous nature and was always willing to stop what he was doing to fix a bicycle or help someone in need.  His sweet and loving nature expanded as his memory left him in his later years. We are grateful to God for the precious time we had with him. Visitation will be held Tuesday (11/20) at Hodapp Funeral Home, 6410 Cincinnati Dayton Rd., Liberty Twp., OH 45044,  from 12 Noon until time of funeral service at 1 PM.  Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association
