Robert Kinnaird Johnson Jr., 91, of Cincinnati, OH, passed away on June, 19, 2014 at 9:33 AM at the Vitas Innovative Hospice Unit at Drake Hospital in Cincinnati.Robert was born January 4, 1923 in Parkersburg, WV, son of the late Robert Kinnaird Johnson Sr. and Helen Mar Clephane. Robert lived in West Virginia until the age of 12. His father’s job for the state road commission had them moving from town to town. After his father died in 1935, the family moved to Cincinnati to be near his mother’s family. He graduated from Milford HS in Cincinnati and then went to The Ohio State University where he was on the tennis team his freshman year. With the United States entry into World War II, he left college and began working at GE to build Wright engines for the war effort. He enlisted in the Army-Air Corps, serving from 1942-1945. He was trained as a weather forecaster and then deployed to an airfield in Egypt in 1944. He returned to Ohio State and earned a degree in chemistry in 1949. He also obtained an MBA from Xavier University. Mr. Johnson worked at Hilton Davis Chemical Co., becoming the Director of Quality Control. He was a long time member of College Hill Presbyterian Church serving several terms as a deacon, elder, and the clerk of session. He enjoyed taking his family on camping trips to visit National Parks, and later traveling extensively with his wife. Robert was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and Scottish Rite. He was an avid reader, golfer, and family man. Surviving is his beloved wife of 63 years, Doreen Lindemann Johnson; three children: David Kinnaird Johnson (Patricia) of Centerville, OH, Cynthia Doreen Beitman (Bruce) of Westerville, OH, Cathleen Roberta Perry (David) of Indianapolis, IN; nine grandchildren: Peter Johnson (Emily), Rebecca Larson (Daniel), Karen Johnson, Drew Beitman (Rachel), Laura LeFlore (Lance), Robbie Beitman, Brian Perry (Katie), Andrew Perry, and Neil Perry; and also nine great-grandchildren: Aliana, Ava, and Kylah Johnson; Annabelle, Patrick, and Graham Larson; Asher and Rinoa Beitman, and Peyton Perry. He is also survived by his brother, William Clephane Johnson; niece, Paige Williamson; and nephews: Scott Johnson and Mark Lindemann. Visitation will be from 12:30-2:00 pm on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 with a Celebration of Resurrection service at 2:00 pm at College Hill Presbyterian Church located at 5742 Hamilton Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45224. Procession will follow to the Garden Mausoleum at Spring Grove Cemetery for the entombment. The family then welcomes visitors back to the church for refreshments. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, Vitas Hospice, or the charity of your choice.
