It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Robert S. Ballinger. Robert passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at his home in Liberty Township, Ohio. Robert was born on August 29, 1952 in Lexington, Kentucky to Earl and Marion Ballinger. He grew up in Lexington and it was there where he met and married his beloved wife of almost 40 years, Peggy Ballinger. Robert and Peggy went on to have three beautiful daughters, and taking care of his family was always his first priority.

Robert was a brilliant man and always eager to learn and further his education. He held a doctorate degree in mechanical engineering as well several degrees in other fields. He was a Senior Engineering Analyst for BWI, where he worked since 1998. He was an extraordinary engineer and provided invaluable service. His work will live on in the products he designed. As well as working at other engineering firms throughout his life, Robert also worked as a professor at the University of Kentucky and the University of Cincinnati.

Robert was an avid sports fan. He was a devoted UK basketball supporter and had a love/hate relationship with the Cincinnati Bengals and Reds. He enjoyed going to games and cheering on his teams with family. Robert's love of sports was passed on to his three daughters and he served as a proud parent and coach to them. Some of the family's best memories were on the softball diamond.

Robert was a giving, generous man and a master of all trades. If you had a problem or needed something fixed, he was the man for the job. He would go out of his way to do favors for others.

Robert had a love for animals. The family pets were always drawn to him and showed a special affection toward him, as he did to them.

Robert leaves behind his wife Peggy Ballinger, daughters Anne Marie Zimmerman (Kelly), Robynn Lyons (Bobby), and Hillary Ballinger, grandchildren Chase Zimmerman and Lolly Lyons, mother Marion Ballinger, brother Steve Ballinger (Lynne), as well as other loving family.
Robert was preceded in death by his father Earl Ballinger on February 16, 2012.

We will miss his laughter (usually at his own jokes and stories), his unique personality, and his unending devotion to his family.

A memorial visitation will be held at Hodapp Funeral Home, 6410 Cincinnati Dayton Road, Liberty Township, Ohio 45044, Sunday May 29, 2016 from 1-2 PM.
