Russell James Hopley, Jr., of Wyoming, Ohio, died on September 11, 2021, at the age of 89. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on January 1, 1932.
Russell studied civil engineering at Iowa State University and, on graduating, entered the U.S. Army. He served as an officer in the Army’s engineering corps for two years in Germany. After his military service, Russell began a professional career in the energy industry and earned a Master of Business Administration degree at Tulane University. Russell greatly enjoyed his work and held positions both in this country and abroad.
Russell is survived by five children, Emmy Edwards (Todd), Mary Rogers (Ed), Virginia Hopley (Randall), Russell Hopley III, and Maria Aprilia; stepdaughter Afriani Lestari (Filipe); seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his brother John (Carolyn).
The family is deeply grateful for the help and support of Russell’s friends at Wyoming’s Friendship United Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at the Friendship United Methodist Church in Wyoming. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friendship United Methodist Church, 1025 Springfield Pike, Wyoming, OH 45215, to contribute to college funding for Russell’s daughter Maria.
