Ruth B. FIDENJanuary 2, 1927 (Cincinnati, OH) – June 25, 2017 (Cincinnati, OH)Ruth Blom Fiden passed away in peace on Sunday, June 25, 2017, at the age of 90 years and six months. Beloved wife of the late Charles John Sr.; devoted mother of Charles John (Deborah) Fiden Jr., Catherine Ann Fiden, Elizabeth Marie Fiden and Daniel Robert (Marybeth) Fiden; loving grandmother of Zachary, Rindy (Jake), Justin, Conner (Alex), Benjamin, Jonah and Alec; loving great grandmother of Hunter, dear sister of the late Martha Ann Blom and dear friend to loving cousins, nieces and nephews, Ruth led a long, rich and fulfilling life that touched many. Raised in Reading, OH, Ruth graduated from Reading High School, and later attended secretarial school. Ruth worked at GE’s Evandale, OH jet engine plant, where she met her husband Chuck. Relocating to New York when they married, Ruth and Chuck moved across the country with GE, most fondly recalling years in Auburn, NY, Owensboro, KY and Wheaton, IL, where Ruth made dear and lifelong friends. Retiring to Cincinnati after two expat years in Singapore, Ruth and Chuck spent their last 30 years together in the town where they met. In retirement, Ruth and Chuck traveled the country and the globe, as they both loved seeing the world, being immersed in new cultural experiences, and spending time with friends and relatives near and far. Friends and home were important to both, and Ruth and Chuck were regular hosts of dinner parties, bridge gatherings and holiday events of all kinds. They also supported and attended Cincinnati’s Playhouse in the Park Theater. A strong, energetic, and talented woman, Ruth pursued many hobbies including gardening, cooking, sewing, needlepoint, knitting, organ, golf, tennis, bowling, scrabble and crossword puzzles. A tremendous animal and people lover, Ruth spent several years volunteering in the children’s shop at the Cincinnati Zoo. She and Chuck were never without a dog at home, their Schnoodle Buddy being their last. Everyone who knew Ruth well will remember her for her lifelong love of the Cincinnati Reds, her devotion to the church, her affection for gardening and the outdoors, her fondness for a daily Old Fashioned or glass of wine, and her incomparable love of family. Ruth’s number one desire in life was to raise a family, and spend cherished days, weeks, months and years together. Family gatherings were the highlights of Ruth’s life, and we will miss her terribly at every one of those occasions from this point forward. Visitation at 1:00pm and mass at 2:00pm on Thursday, June 29, St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 9080 Cincinnati-Dayton Rd, West Chester, OH, 45069-3129.
