AUDIA, Samuel F., beloved husband of Virginia P. Audia (nee Rich) for 70 wonderful years, died peacefully at home Sunday, October 31, 1 day shy of his 95th birthday. He was the devoted father of Samuel F. (Helen) Audia, Jr., Shelley A. Hesse and Jeffrey J. Audia, beloved “Poppy” of Samuel III and Laura Audia, Heidi (Vince) Bodin, Michael Hesse (Katie), Matthew and Katie Audia, great-grandfather of Nicholas, Annabelle and Benjamin Bodin, Fletcher and Oliver Hesse. He is survived by his sister Irene D’Amico and his nieces Irene (Sunny) D’Amico and Donna Sheen. Sam was preceded in death by his sister Mary Riffe and his parents Frank and Rose Audia. He was a graduate of West Virginia University, receiving undergraduate and master degrees in chemical engineering. He worked for the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission’s Feed Materials Production Center, operated by National Lead Co. of Ohio for 41 years. Thirty of those years were spent at the Fernald, OH, plant where he was manager from 1976 to his retirement in 1981. Sam was an avid outdoorsman all his life. College football was followed by hunting, fishing, golf, gardening and wine-making. He excelled in all his endeavors and enjoyed life. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2011, at Twin Towers Wilson Chapel 10 a.m. Burial with family will be at New St. Joseph Cemetery.
