Susan Lynn Slater (nee Mary), known for her beautiful smile, compassionate heart, devotion to her family and strong faith in Christ, passed away peacefully at home with her family September 17, 2015 at the age of 68. Beloved wife of 47 years to Thomas Slater. Loving mother to Brett (Melissa) and Blake (Jill) Slater. Adoring grandmother to Grant and Brian Slater. Daughter of the late Ruth (Weiss) and Edward Mary. Sister to Michael (Kathleen), Thomas (Lisa) , James (Nancy Helen) and Stephen (Nancy Lynn) Mary. Susan was born in St. Bernard. At the age of 4 the family moved to Groesbeck in Colerain Township. Susan graduated from Colerain HS in 1964. This is where Susan, the girl with the beautiful smile met Tom, the basketball player. They married in 1968 and had 47 blessed years together. Susan graduated from Jewish Hospital School of Nursing. She saw nursing as a way to touch people and allow her profession to be her ministry. She began her career as a RN at Jewish Hospital and then moved to McCullough Hyde Hospital in Oxford. After a brief hiatus to raise her boys, she put her RN degree to use in the private practice arena. All told she was a in the medical field for 32 years. Susan’s passion for Christ was realized at an early age and accepted Christ as her personal savior as a youth. Throughout her life, she participated in a variety of activities such as BMA camps, church youth group and choir. Outreach groups such as Good News Club, Women’s Missionary Fellowship and the Deacon ministry with Tom. Susan enjoyed vacationing at the beach and spending as much time with her family especially her two grandchildren, Grant and Brian. Susan will be missed by many, but her qualities and her smile live on through her children, grandchildren and everyone she has touched in her own special way. We can rejoice in the fact that Susan is with her Heavenly Father .Visitation will be Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Faith Bible Church, 8130 E. Kemper Rd. from 9AM to 11AM; Memorial Service will immediately follow at 11AM; In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gideon’s International , Faith Bible Church Benevolence fund or Hospice of Cincinnati; Condolences may be sent to www.hodappfuneralhome.com
