Shannon Miller

MILLER, Shannon (nee McCune), 74, of West Chester, Ohio, passed away on Monday, September 17, 2018, of breast cancer. She was born August 9, 1944, in Price, Utah, to Patrick Walter and Maxine Pearl Day McCune. She completed her primary education in Fillmore, Utah. She married her sweetheart, E. Kent Miller, on August 28, 1964, in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After graduating from Utah State University in 1966, she taught Home Economics for one year at Layton High School.
Shannon loved volunteering in church-affiliated activities, which included Boy Scouts (BSA), Family History Research, and serving in the Columbus, Ohio, temple. She volunteered as Cub Master, Scout Master, and director of Cub Scout Day Camp. She served as a BSA District Commissioner and was twice the recipient of the District Award of Merit. Shannon and Kent enjoyed working in Scouting as a couple and it was even more meaningful when completing Wood Badge training together. After leaving Scouting, Shannon became a consultant in church family history centers and was the director of the West Chester Family History Center for almost a decade. For the past two years she served a church mission for Family History Research.
She is survived by her husband, E. Kent Miller; children, Trudy (Kevin) Tucker, West Chester, Ohio; Ginger Miller, West Chester, Ohio; Douglas Miller, Dallas, Texas; Jared Miller, Eloy, Arizona; Ingrid (Mark) Axelson, Cedar City, Utah; two sisters, Jeanne (Ivie) Nielson, Salt Lake City, Utah; and Karen Whitaker, Hooper, Utah. She is predeceased by a son, Ryan Kent Miller; a granddaughter, Erin Rebecca Tucker; a grandson, Noehren Robert Eggett; and a son-in-law, Robert Carlyle (Ingrid) Eggett.
A graveside service will be held Friday, September 21, 2018, at 1:00 pm, at Rest Haven Memorial Park, Evendale, Ohio, followed by a Celebration of Life Memorial Open House at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7118 Dutchland Pkwy, Liberty Twp., Ohio, at 6:00 pm. Burial arrangements by Hodapp Funeral Home, West Chester, Ohio. Special thank you to Hospice of Cincinnati.
