Sheldon A. Strand

September 16, 1932 — February 13, 2018

Sheldon Allen Strand, 85, of Liberty Township, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Hospice of Cincinnati Blue Ash.

A visitation will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Monroe, Ohio, between 4-7 pm on Sunday, Feb. 18.  A short visitation between 9-10 am will be followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 am on Monday at the church.  Burial at Spring Hill Cemetery and a luncheon at the church will follow.   Donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Sheldon, known as “Shelly” and to his Minnesota family as “Sonny,” was born in Minneapolis, MN on Sept. 16, 1932.  An Army veteran and a graduate of the University of Minnesota, Sheldon worked in pharmaceutical sales and was transferred to Cincinnati with Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals, where he met and married Gabrielle Rosselot in 1964.  In 1971, he entered Chase Law School and began practicing law in 1975, eventually becoming Law Director for the City of Middletown, Ohio.  He served on several boards, including the Legal Aid Society and Mount Notre Dame High School.  He served on the Board of Trustees for Liberty Township from 1996-1999.  Sheldon retired in 1999, although he continued his private law practice until 2008.  With his wife, he traveled extensively, served his parish community in prison ministry, children’s worship and other ministries and enjoyed time with his children and grandchildren.

Sheldon is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gabrielle, and his five children, Rebecca Johnson and her husband Steven of Wyoming, OH; Eric Strand and his wife Marya of St. Louis, MO; Chris Strand and his wife Amy of Grand Rapids, MI; Rachel Obringer and her husband Corey of Wyoming, OH; and Emily Strand and her husband Matt Cooper of Columbus, OH; his eleven grandchildren: Nathaniel and Madeleine Johnson; Nicholas, Luke, Jacob and Benjamin Strand; Margaret and Abigail Strand; Katherine and Benjamin Obringer; and Jude Cooper; and his many nieces and nephews.   He is preceded in death by his parents Hjalmer and Myrtle Sandberg Strand and his six brothers and sisters.
