Thompson, Shirley V. (retired Major in The Salvation Army) was
promoted to glory on June 9 at the age of 88. She lived her life
dedicated to God serving others through the work and mission of The
Salvation Army. She is preceded in death by her parents, James and
Alina Pierson, sister Lillian (Whann), and brothers Robert, James, and
Harry. She is survived by her sister Elsie (Barrett), brother Joel,
and numerous nieces and nephews. Loving mother of Carl Thompson, Pam
(daughter-in-law), grandmother of Katie Pohl, Alyssa Chea, and
great-grandmother of Charlie and Ava Pohl.
Graduate of Kensington High School, Philadelphia
Commissioned as an officer of The Salvation Army in 1955, the
“Soulwinners’ Session”, she served as an officer for 34 years.
Appointments include New York, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Cincinnati,
and Puerto Rico. In addition, she was a Sunday School teacher, Junior
Soldier Sergeant, Corps Cadet Counselor, and was a member of the band
and songsters in each corp where she attended.
Private family services have been held.
