Sister Kathleen Ann Green, RSM was the daughter of Raymond Green and Catherine Rosso Green. She passed away on August 28, 2017, at the age of 68. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA, and entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1971. Her education included a BA in political science from Slippery Rock State College, PA and an MA in Liturgical Studies from St. John University in Collegeville, MN. She was also a Fellow of the Creating Healthier Communities Care Forum
Sister Kathy has had a long and distinguished history of service, especially in the Cincinnati area. Before joining Mercy Health she taught religion at Mother of Mercy High School. She served as first president of the South Central Community of the Sisters of Mercy. Later she became regional vice-president of Mission Services for Mercy Health of Southwest Ohio, and vice president of Mission Services for Mercy Anderson Hospital.
In 2007 she was elected to the Mercy Health Board of Trustees and from 2013 she ministered as senior vice-president for Mission and Values Integration on Mercy Health’s executive leadership team.
She served on numerous non-profit boards including those of Mercy Neighborhood Ministries, Healthy Moms and Babes, Mercy Health Partners of Southwest Ohio Foundation and Owensboro Mercy Health System. She was board president for Bethany House Services and board secretary for Jordan Center.
Sister Kathy had a great sense of humor and enjoyed performing when the occasion arose. An avid fan of all sports, she was devoted to the Pittsburgh Steelers. She enjoyed playing golf, loved the ocean, and cared dutifully for her cats.
Sister Kathy was an inspiration to so many because of the way she lived her life. Her kindness, intelligence, sense of humor and boundless energy are remembered by all of her friends and colleagues. Her lifelong passion was to help others, particularly those who are poor and vulnerable. Her faith was obvious to everyone she met.
