Sister Marjorie Bosse

Sister Marjorie Bosse (former Sister Mary Beata) sister of the Sisters of Mercy for 76 years. Passed away on November 20, 2024, at the age of 95. Born on May 22, 1929, to Marguerite Schaefer and Edward J. Bosse. Preceded in death by siblings Edward Bosse, George Bosse and Marian Bier. Survived by numerous nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

 Sister Marjorie was born in Cincinnati and attended Mother of Mercy High School. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in September of 1948. Her education included degrees from Our Lady of Cincinnati (Edgecliff) College and Health Care Administration from Xavier University. 

 Her early years in ministry were spent as a nurse in local hospitals operated by the Sisters of Mercy. She was Director of Nursing at Mercy Hamilton Hospital, then in Administration at Our Lady Of Mercy Mariemont. From 1970-1976 Sister Marjorie served as Area Coordinator for the Cincinnati Area of the Sisters of Mercy, Province of Cincinnati. From 1977-1983 she was Provincial of that community. From 1986-87 she was CEO of Mercy Hospital Mariemont and Anderson. In 1900 she became a vice-president of the Mercy Health System in the areas of Systems Development, Advocacy in Government Relations, Outreach and Community Services. She served in this capacity until 2013. She also served on numerous boards for the Mercy Health System and other health systems. From 2013 – 2020 she volunteered at the Mercy Health home office.

 In 2000 Sister Marjorie received the OHA Distinguished Service Award in honor of her outstanding leadership in support of health care. In 2002 she was awarded the James L. Scott Excellence in Advocacy Award for her untiring efforts in that area. In 2005 she was the recipient of the Excellence in Governance Award from the Catholic Health East Governance Leadership Conference and in 2012 she was the received the Meritorious Service Award from the Ohio Hospital Association. 

 Sister Marjorie belonged to two card clubs that meant monthly, she enjoyed an occasional visit to the casino and her annual two weeks vacation in Florida. She never availed herself of a sabbatical. So during her retirement years each morning was a sabbatical moment.

 Funeral will be held at St. Francis de Sales’ Church 1600 Madison Ave., Cincinnati, 45206, at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 2, followed by a reception at St. Francis de Sales’ school. Burial on Tuesday, December 3, at 10:00 at St. Joseph’s (new) cemetery.
