Igo, Sr. Betty Ann, SFP

Sister Betty Ann Igo, 91, passed into the heart of God on June 13, 2023 after an acute illness. Betty was one of three children born to the late Gertrude and Stanley Igo on April 5, 1932 in Covington, KY. She held fond memories of her growing years of childhood shared with her siblings. Betty was aware early on, of a call to religious life, joining the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor at the young age of sixteen.

After completing her initial formation, Sr. Betty made Perpetual Profession on May 3, 1957, receiving the religious name of Sr. Marie Montfort, later she returned to her baptismal name of Betty. Shortly after Profession, Sr. Betty received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Dayton. She ministered as a Medical Technologist for a period of twelve years in Congregational sponsored hospitals in Dayton, Cincinnati and Kentucky. With the new life offered by Vatican ll in the Catholic Church, Sr. Betty became vested in the Charismatic Renewal Movement and shifted her life and ministries to efforts of Spirituality. She pursued a Master’s Degree in Education from Xavier University and spent a short time in the classroom setting before becoming actively engaged with Christian Healing as a Spiritual Counselor and Educative Leader providing workshops and presentations with others across the United States.

In 1998, Sr. Betty obtained a Master’s in Pastoral Counseling from Newmann University in Philadelphia, PA and thereafter continued to expand her energies in Pastoral Services often by means of technology. Nothing and no one held Sr. Betty back from proclaiming the Word of God to others. She was a woman of abundant joy and enthusiasm for God and God’s people. In more recent years, Sr. Betty continued her ministry through her online presence, while also offering her person and prayer to her fellow Sisters and all who lovingly knew her.

Sr. Betty leaves behind her fellow Sisters, the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor, her sister, Pat Kankowski, along with nieces, nephews and many friends and associates. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Michael and her step brother Mike Hoffman. The Liturgy of Resurrection will occur on Thursday, June 22nd at 10am in St. Clare Chapel, 60 Compton Road. The Liturgy will also be livestreamed via Facebook at Franciscan Sisters of the Poor/U.S. Area.  Interment will immediately follow the liturgy. In lieu of flowers, kindly direct donations to Franciscan Ministries, 110 Compton Road, Cincinnati, OH 45215.
