March 19, 1947 — February 13, 2024

Cincinnati

Stephen A. Ries of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away peacefully on February 13, 2024.  Steve was born March 19, 1947 to Philip and Dorothy (Feith) Ries.  Steve is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jamie (Smith) Ries, daughter Mindi (Morgan) Rich, sons Tony (Beth) Ries and Joe (Alicia) Ries.  Steve’s 8 grandchildren brought him the greatest joy, Tyler, Mae, Kaitlyn, Rowan, Nicholas, Arden, Kaia and Harlow.  In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren he is preceded in death by his brother, P. Jerome Ries and survived by his sister, Dr. Penelope A Ries.

After serving in the Army and while attending Xavier University - Steve worked at his family’s local hardware store, Blue Ash Ace Hardware.   When his parents retired, he purchased the business and continued his parents’ legacy in assisting others with their in-home repairs and DIY projects.  His chattiness, friendly smile and love of helping others made him the perfect fit and every customer’s go-to guy!

In retirement, he enjoyed working at Great American Ball Park and volunteering in a variety of ways with the Aronoff Center for the Arts, Citizens on Patrol and serving as the treasurer for Mt. Airy Town Council.  When he was not volunteering – he loved being outdoors - biking, camping, frisbee golf, walking, kayaking - all with the love of his life and best friend, Jamie.
