Stephen Joseph Tapocik , 67 of Liberty Township, Ohio passed away peacefully on April 7, 2025 after a long and courageous battle with complications from type 1 diabetes.
Born on October 10, 1957 to loving parents Paul and Helen Tapocik and sister Paula (Mike) Lantz. Steve grew up in Springfield, Illinois where he built a life filled with love, devotion and dedication to those around him before moving to be close to his grandchildren in Ohio.
He was the beloved husband of Janet (Brennan) for 46 years. Together they created a home full of warmth and joy.
Steve was a cherished father to his children, Michele (Ben) Helmers, Sean (Lauren) Tapocik, Erin (Andrew) Perry. He took great pride in watching his children grow and thrive.
The greatest loves of his life were his grandchildren, Jacob Helmers, Camden and Sophia Tapocik, Francie and baby Perry on the way.
Steve’s sense of loyalty extended far beyond his immediate family. He adored his nieces and nephews, always there to offer support and encouragement when needed.
A man of true integrity, Steve was the kind of person who would do anything for those he loved, putting their needs above his own without hesitation. His selflessness and love for others were evident in everything he did.
After retiring from CWLP following 35 years of service as a machinist, Steve and Janet moved to Ohio to be close to their children and grandchildren. He enjoyed every cherished moment he spent with his “babies”.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Helen Tapocik; his in-laws, Paul and Mary Lou Brennan, and his beloved daughter-in-law Lauren Schummer.
He was a rock to those who knew him, and his absence will leave a deep void in the hearts of all who were blessed to call him a loved one.
A private service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks donations to be made in Steve’s memory to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (breakthrought1d.org)
The family would like to give a special thank you to the team of medical professionals at Bethesda North Hospital for their compassionate care.
