Terry McCollum, a beloved educator and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on September 4, 1944, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Terry dedicated his life to nurturing young minds, serving 31 years as a teacher and educational leader in the Cincinnati Public Schools. He later held the position of Statewide Director of OSI-Discovery at Miami University, shaping the educational landscape for countless students and teachers.
Terry's journey of learning began at Withrow High School, where he graduated in 1962. He furthered his education at Asbury University, receiving his degree in 1966, followed by earning his Masters and Doctorate from the University of Cincinnati. His commitment to education was paralleled only by his humility, love, and patience, traits that endeared him to students and colleagues alike. He was also active in his community, serving on a research committee for Children's Hospital for 26 years, reflecting his kindness and commitment to service.
In addition to his exemplary career, Terry was a devoted husband to Peggy, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, spending retirement in Fort Myers, Florida. He found joy in golf, attending sporting events with his son, Zach, and cherishing moments alongside Peggy, Zach, Christy, and grandpuppies.
Terry's faith was a cornerstone of his life. It granted him the strength to endure the challenges he faced in his later years living with L.B.D. for more than seven years. He loved God, family, and friends deeply, embodying the qualities of a humble and loving man.
Terry is survived by his wife, Peggy; his son, Zach (Christy); his sister, Beverly Grohsmeyer; his brother, Herbert (Jeep) McCollum (Kathy); along with many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Marjorie McCollum.
