Thomas Carl Sell
Age 84, on Sunday, February 8, 2015. Husband of the late Sandra C. Sell; father of Jim, Mike, and Tim Sell; father in law of Tammy, Kate, and Cindy Sell; brother of Donna Whitman; grandfather of Mallory, Brian, and Michael Sell and River, Brando, and Dylan Sell; a great friend to many. Tom was born in Altoona, Pennsylvania; raised in Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania; and resided in Lexington, Kentucky; Las Vegas, Nevada, West Chester, Ohio; and Verona, Pennsylvania. He received a Bachelors in Biology from Dickinson College, a Masters in Public Health from the University of Michigan, and a Masters in Accounting from Northern Colorado University. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was a commisioned officer in the United States Public Health Service, achieving the rank of Captain (Naval). With the USPHS and Environmental Protection Agency, he developed training programs and protocols for emergency response and the handling of hazardous material that have been adopted across industry and government, including the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. He was a talented model ship builder, a collector of Old West memorabilia, drinker of bourbon and gin martinis, and, late in his life, a writer of humorous stories. He was an Eagle Scout.
Funeral services will be held at Hodapp Funeral Home, 8815 Cincinnati Columbus Rd., West Chester, Ohio, on Friday, February 13. Visitation noon to 1, service at 1. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Boy Scouts of America.
