Tom loved the song “All I Ask of You” from Phantom of the Opera and requested it be played at his funeral because it explains how he’s soaring with the angels and will forever watch over us. Tom was proud of his daughter Amy & son-in-law Brad who created Transcendence Theatre Company in Sonoma, California.  This song was lovingly recorded by Tom’s friends & Broadway artists Meggie Cansler Ness & Will Ray.  Matt Smart beautifully arranged and orchestrated the song in Tom’s honor.  Enjoy the music and celebrate Tom’s extraordinary life!

Thomas Francis Miller, 70, passed away peacefully October 3, 2020, at Hospice of Cincinnati in Blue Ash. Loving son of the late Edward and Anna May Miller, Cleveland, OH; beloved husband of Ann Margaret Miller (nee Schnelle); devoted father of Megan M. Runk (Dan), Cincinnati, OH, Amy M. Miller (Brad Surosky), Sonoma, CA, Brian T. Miller (Juliana Breines), Boston, MA, and Scott M. Miller (Katie Metzinger), St. Louis, MO; dedicated grandfather of six (Lily, Sonia, and Danny Runk; Sam and Clare Miller; Micah Surosky); caring brother of Jim Miller (Kris), Dorothy Baxendale (Dave), and the late Maureen Simbeck and brother-in-law of Marie Schnelle, Kay Maier (John), Joe Schnelle (Grace), and the late Mike Hipskind. Born in Cleveland, OH, February 8, 1950, Tom attended Saint Edward’s High School before his undergraduate work at Xavier University where he studied political science. During his time at Xavier, he met Ann through his close friend (and future brother-in-law) Mike Hipskind and Tom and Ann were married in 1972. After completing his Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Cincinnati, Tom was stationed in Army active duty in Fort Lee, VA from 1974-1978, during which he welcomed his two daughters, Megan (1975) and Amy (1978). After his Army discharge, the family relocated back to Cincinnati, first settling in Mt. Airy where they welcomed Brian (1979) and Scott (1981) into the growing family. In 1985, the family moved to Finneytown where Tom would reside for the rest of his life. Family was his greatest passion, and he created one that was so special. He adored the love of his life Ann for 48 years of marriage, and together they put every ounce of their hearts into raising their children with strong values and providing them with love, support, and every opportunity to live their dreams. He loved being a grandpa and cherished all his grandchildren. He had a long career in procurement services where he held a number of positions including sourcing agent and director, starting first at General Electric Company, transitioning to Modern Technologies Corporation (MTC), and finishing his career at Corbus, LLC, where he worked until his retirement in 2015. Outside of work, he devoted 24 years serving in the Army Reserve and rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.  He was active in St. Vivian’s parish performing a number of service roles over the years and also filled leadership positions within the Reserve Officers Association. One of Tom’s primary passions in life was his love of sports, and he could regularly be found following his many rooting interests including all Cincinnati and Cleveland professional teams as well as his beloved Xavier Musketeers in basketball. Another hobby of Tom's was travel. In addition to extended business trips in India, he made frequent trips to visit his family that spanned both coasts, always looked forward to his “baseball blitz” trips to cross another stadium off his list with his sons, and his favorite trips of all time were his two family trips to Hawaii. From all walks of life he gained many friends along the way, and later in life always looked forward to his Monday night St. Vivian men’s group dinners where he formed strong and lasting bonds over the years. Tom was blessed with an incredible life filled with wonderful family and friends he cherished. If desired, memorials may be made to Saint Vivian Church, 7600 Winton Road, Cincinnati, OH 45224 - a faith community at the center of Tom’s heart for over 35 years. Given the realities of the pandemic, Tom's private funeral mass will be live streamed on Thursday, October 8, 2020 at 11am EST, at https://youtu.be/M6dtlOp6iXw
