THOMAS J. RUTHEMEYER
(b: May 10, 1947; d: May 11, 2023)
Beloved husband of Patricia (Muszynski) Ruthemeyer; loving father of Todd Ruthemeyer and Kristen (Ruthemeyer) Hammer (Jacob). Loving brother of Mary Lloyd. Uncle of Tammy (Lloyd) Kidd (Mike) and Paul Lloyd (Kim); and 4 great-nieces/nephews.
Tom graduated from University of Cincinnati College of Business, obtained his CPA, then earned his MBA from Xavier University.
Tom worked for Mercy Health Partners of Cincinnati for 28 years, retiring in 2001. While with Mercy Health Partners, Tom was instrumental in the merger of support services for all four Cincinnati-based Mercy hospitals (1993) and the formal ‘regionalization’ of local Mercy hospitals under one CEO and Board. The facilities Tom built or impacted include but are not limited to Clermont Mercy Hospital, Mercy Anderson Hospital, Mercy Fairfield Hospital, two Health and Wellness facilities, ambulatory surgery facilities, and the Cincinnati portion of the acquired Franciscan Health System. Tom was named Regional CFO (1997) in recognition of his achievements and efforts. In 2001 he retired as Executive Vice President in the Office of the Regional President.
Tom helped develop and taught the Masters of Health Informatics Program at Northern Kentucky University (2007-2010). He was a popular Assistant Clinical Professor in the Masters of Health Services Administration Program (Finance) at Xavier University (2003-2022).
Tom was dedicated to serving his community. As a Mercy Associate, he served on numerous committees and boards for the Sisters of Mercy, including the Mercy Education System of the America (MESA) board. Other committees/boards he served on include HealthBridge Finance Committee, Northern Kentucky Regional Health Information Organization, the Joint Healthcare Ethics Committee of Catholic Health Partners, and Clermont County Chamber of Commerce, which awarded him their 1984 Man of the Year Award.
Professional Memberships included Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity, the American Institute of CPAs, Ohio Society of CPAs, and member of the Financial Executives International.
A dedicated family man, Tom was always fiercely proud of his wife and two children. He loved the outdoors and remained a member of the Cincinnati Nature Center and the Cincinnati Zoo for all of his childrens’ living memory. An avid supporter of the arts, Tom brought his family to a variety of cultural events across the city. He regularly attended presentations at the Aronoff Center and Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, and was a regular donor to Know Theatre of Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Fringe Festival. He loved nothing more than to sit on his backyard deck in the sun enjoying their garden, or to sit in front of his fireplace with a good book or British TV mystery.
