LAWHORN, Vernon O., passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2013, at the Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset, Kentucky. He was born on August 9, 1924, in Yosemite, Casey County, Kentucky, son of the late Meacie Estes Farmer and Beckham Lawhorn. He is survived by his present wife, Olive Jeanette Williamson, whom he married October 12, 2010, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee and three stepdaughters, Melodye (Bill) Burkett, Wendi (Gary) Conley, Lorri (Troy) Horn, three nieces, Cathy (Ken) Renner, Patty Romaine, Vickie (Ken) Fightmaster, two brothers-in-law Duel (Shirley) Apple, and Delbert (Lucy) Apple, and eight step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Charline Apple and four brothers, William, Robert, Joseph, and Leon Lawhorn. He was a WW II veteran in the 4025th Signal Corp where he was awarded the American Theater and Pillippines Liberation Ribbons, 3 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct and WW II Victory Medals, and the Meritorious Unit Award. Vernon was an excellent golfer and avid fisherman who enjoyed all water sports. Visitation at the Hodapp Funeral Home, 7401 VIne St., Carthage, Saturday from 12 noon until funeral service at 1 p.m., with Rev. Bryan Price officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Gardens.
