Facebook"From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord's name is to be praised." Psalm 113:3Viola Fay (Hines) Tarter went home to be with Jesus at age 94 on Monday, November 23rd 2020 at the Fountains Transitional Care Center in Sharonville, OH.Born June 13
th, 1926 in Casey County, KY, to Melvin and Purlesy (McAninch) Hines, Viola Fay was one of eight children. Fay married her beloved husband, Vernon D. Tarter after he came back from serving in WWII on June 11th, 1946. Their only son, Dennis D. Tarter was born in Danville, KY in November of 1947. Vernon and Fay moved their little family to Cincinnati in 1948 and lived in Elmwood, OH. In 1958, when Vernon started working at Proctor and Gamble, Fay worked at Albers Supermarket. They had their house in Sharonville, OH, built in 1960 (where Fay lived up until October 2018.) Their family grew when Dennis married April Whitaker on June 10
th, 1967. When their first grandchild, Dennis Wesley Tarter was born in 1970, they assumed their beloved roles as: “Granddad” and “Grandma Fay.” When their second grandchild, Adam Christopher Tarter was born in 1983, they were overjoyed.
Vernon and Fay took many trips to visit family in Casey County, KY, through the years. In later years, their favorite weekend getaway was at Lure Lodge on Lake Cumberland. They made lots of memories there with their son, daughter-in-law and grandsons, as well as trips to Florida and out West.
Nieces and nephews knew Fay as a loving, generous aunt who was always interested in their lives. Fay was always there at the many family gatherings through the years.
Fay was an excellent cook, serving her specialties of deviled eggs, buttermilk pie, butter cake, and many other favorites to her family and friends. Fay was a wonderful housekeeper and loved to tastefully decorate her home. In dressing for different occasions she always paid special attention that everything matched, right down to her shoes, jewelry, and even her big hats.
Fay’s family expanded once again when her grandson Adam married Teresa on October 5
th, 2013. Teresa’s parents and siblings, nieces and nephews, and even extended family and friends, also knew her as “Grandma Fay” – the plucky little lady with a Kentucky accent who made the famous buttermilk pies.
Grandma Fay had tears of joy when she held her first great-grandchild, Gabriel Wesley, born in 2016. And again, 20 months later, when she held her first great-granddaughter, Rosalie Grace. Due to the restrictions brought on by Covid-19, she was only able to see her third great-grandchild, Joseph Adam, through the window at the nursing home she was residing at. How Grandma Fay loved babies!
After declining health for the past two years, Grandma Fay is now free from pain and with her precious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. One of her favorite verses was Psalm 113:3:
"From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord's name is to be praised." She would often tell her family about how a beautiful sunrise over Lake Cumberland, KY, always made her think of that verse. On November 23
rd, Viola Fay passed away shortly after sunset here in Ohio. From the beginning of her life to its recent ending, "the Lord's name is to be praised."
