Tucker, Virginia A. “Ginny”

“Ginny” was born on December 8, 1939 in Cincinnati to Ralph Wilson and Mary Ruth Neagle Wilson. Her nickname as a child was “Ginger”, but she was called “Gigi” by her younger brother Robert Wilson. In 1963, she married Lloyd O. Tucker. They were divorced over 10 years later. She was married to Irv Springer for a short time in 1981. As an adult her nickname changed from “Ginger” to “Ginny”. All of her friends knew her as “Ginny”. Ginny is survived by her children: Lorrie Tucker, Elizabeth (David) James, and Lloyd O. Tucker, II; her grandchildren: Carly James and Casey James; and her sister Jean Landis, and her beloved dog Dakota and her cat Chippie. Her parents and her brother predeceased her.

Ginny inspired her children with her example of a good work ethic. She rarely missed a day of work. On the rare occasion that she was not at work during a scheduled shift, it was due to a broken bone or a funeral. She made many friends during her working years, especially during her time at Cambridge Inn Cafeteria in North College Hill.

In her retirement years, Ginny enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and volunteering at the North College Hill Senior Center and the LifeSpring Christian Church. As a member of the North College Hill Senior Center, she certainly had fun playing chair volleyball, bingo, and Bunco, but her greatest pleasure was serving as a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program. Although she did not have a driver’s license, she rode along with the assigned driver and jumped out of the car to personally deliver meals to each person who was signed up to receive a meal. She formed friendships with multiple Meals on Wheels drivers and with the senior citizens who were receiving these meals. She was a frequent visitor to the Tuesday night dinner at the St. Paul United Church of Christ in North College Hill. We believe that she went there not just for the food but for the fellowship. At LifeSpring, she was a member of a small Bible study group called the “Band of Sisters”. These ladies loved her and cared for her. They took her in as their own.

Her grandchildren were very important to her. She was a central figure in their lives from their birth until the day they lost her, and she will continue to live on in their memories. She showed them a deep love of animals. Not only did she buy them a zoo membership, but she even spent the night at the zoo during a class trip. She taught them how to ride the bus, find a bargain, get your grandma to spoil you, and many other treasured lessons. Both Carly and Casey delighted in making their grandma laugh whether by dancing and singing when they were much younger or by making silly faces when she was in her later years. There is no way to fully describe the incredible impact that she had on their young lives.
