Virginia Marie Meyer

October 13, 1924 — December 30, 2020

Virginia Marie Meyer passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 30, at her home in Mason while in the arms of her youngest daughter and caretaker of 15 years, Teresa, and surrounded by many of her children and grandchildren.  Preceded in death by her dedicated husband Raymond of 44 years, she left a living legacy.  As the saying goes, “It’s not what you leave, it’s who you leave.” She was the beloved mother of Ray (JoAnn), Steve (Cecilia), Jim (Sharon), Tom (Cathy), Dick (Trish), Joe (Barb), Jerry (Maria), Mary Jo (Mike), and Teresa (Tom).  She was cherished by her many grandchildren: Daniel, Kathrine, James, Jonathan, Matthew, Mark, Adam, Meghan, Katie, Brian, Rick, Krista, Jenny, Joey, Elizabeth, Luke, Drew, Alex, McKenna, Theresa, Christina, Steven, Michael, Conor, Kevin, Sean, Abigail, Caroline, Tessa, and Sarah.  Virginia was blessed to also have many great-grandchildren: Morgan, Samuel, Alyssa, Annabelle, Madeleine, Natalie, Lily, Nathan, Tommy, Max, George, Augie, Gemma, Hank, Cole, Emily, Skylar, Aaron, Jayton, Larken, Gavin, Quintin, Asher, Jude, Isaac, Emmett, Beckett, Stella, Sophie, Payton, Maggie, Ollie, Tripp, Kennedy, Simon, Emmie, JoJo, Chase, Elliot, Maria, William, and Teddy.

Virginia was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on October 13, 1924.  She grew up in Evanston, where she met her husband Raymond. After two years of marriage, they moved into their first home in Finneytown, where they raised 9 children together and where Ginny lived for over 60 years.  Their home was built on faith in God and the love of family.  There was never a Sunday without Mass at St. Vivian’s, where Ginny was a longtime and active parishioner, and Meyer family meals shared around the table.  As the family grew, they continued to gather together, especially for their famous annual Meyer Christmas Eve celebrations.

In addition to being known as the Meyer family matriarch, she was known for her devotion to her faith, dedication to service, love for her family, and weakness for games shows and dark chocolate.  Ginny was the true prayer warrior of the family and a gift to each person she encountered.  Her laugh was infectious and her smile could light up any room.  To Ginny, life and all its gifts, especially during her final day on Earth, were “wonderful”! The family will hold a private celebration of life on Monday, January 4th, at St. Vivian Catholic Church.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.  Virginia’s funeral mass will be live streamed on St. Vivian’s website.
