RUDDY, Walter R., born in Queens, NY, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2012, in Cincinnati, OH. Walter attended St. John’s Prep and Manhattan College which was interrupted by service in the 10th Mountain Division and deployment in Italy during WW II. Upon return, he graduated from Manhattan College with a degree in electrical engineering. He married Juliana Burkard in October, 1949, and they had three children, Richard, Barbara and the late Donald. They lived in Glen Rock, NJ, from 1961 until moving to Cincinnati in 2009. Professionally, he worked many years at ITT in Nutley, NJ, and ended his career at the Swiss Bank in NYC. He was a board member of the former Home Federal S&L (North Fork Bank). Creatively, he was an artist, working with water colors, authored a play “Manhattan Girl” in 1995 and published the Long Beach Island Journal in 1976. He was active in NJ politics locally and the Bergen County Republican Committee and was a significant contributor to the renovation of St. Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church in Glen Rock, NJ. Walter is survived by his wife of 63 years, Juliana, children Barbara Ruddy (Denver, CO), Richard Ruddy and Barbara Wriston-Ruddy (Cincinnati, OH) and 6 grandchildren. A memorial service in New Jersey is to be planned in the spring. Memorials may be made to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, the Gay Men’s Health Crisis or the 10th Mountain Division HUTs (http://www.huts.org/).
