Wayne Edgar McClure
March 25, 1933 — March 3, 2021
On Wednesday, March 3rd, Wayne Edgar McClure peacefully passed away at the age of 87. Wayne was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on March 25, 1933 to Grace Katherine Dorsey McClure and Roy Simpson McClure. Wayne was the oldest of 4 brothers. Wayne grew up enjoying sports including basketball and golf. After graduating from Hughes High School in Cincinnati, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. As part of his army service he served in Germany- being awarded the Army of Occupation Medal of Germany, and the National Defense Service Medal. Soon after his return from Army Service, Wayne married Mary Gruber. Their home was blessed with 4 beautiful children; Kathleen, Anthony, Mary Jo, and Nancy. In his working years, Wayne was a Field Engineer for Cincinnati Bell Telephone Company. During these years he received formal recognition for quick actions while on the job that saved the life of a child. He retired after 32 years of service to the Telephone Company.
In 1958 Wayne followed the Savior Jesus Christ in being baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. From this day, he was a fervent Disciple of Jesus Christ. Wayne was always excited to share the joy he had found in the Gospel with others. He served others in many capacities in the Church but was most at home as a Stake Missionary where he helped others as they found the joy that he had found.
After his first marriage ended, Wayne married Linda Brackett of Cincinnati. They grew together through their challenges. They were blessed with 2 children together; Janetta, and Brian. As a family, the McClures enjoyed spending time together on trips. Family trip highlights included trips to Utah and New Jersey to visit Wayne’s brothers and their families. Other vacation favorites were Myrtle Beach South Carolina, and Louisiana where they could visit friends Tom and Fran Cearly. In later years, Wayne and Linda enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Mexico, and the Grand Cayman Islands.
Wayne was always an engaging conversationalist. People could be sure that if Wayne was part of the conversation it would be fun. Of all the things that Wayne liked to talk about, his favorite topic was the Gospel of Jesus Christ. If he wasn’t talking about this with his family and friends then he was probably be talking about his second favorite topic, Golf. Wayne was an avid golfer putting in marathons worth of miles on the golf course throughout his life. It took major health issues to slow down his golf game. Even after this, you could still find him with a golf tie, reading about golf in the newspaper, or watching golf on TV.
In 2014, life changed for Wayne and Linda when health issues led them to get packed up and moved across the country to Nampa Idaho. Here Wayne and Linda had a slower paced life as they shared years together in the Park Place Assisted Living. Here they were quick to make friends with both residents and staff alike. While living in Idaho, they were always quick to let people know that they were from Ohio and that Cincinnati was still home.
Wayne touched many lives and will be greatly missed by the many people he influenced and were lucky enough to call him a friend.
Wayne was preceded in death by his mother Grace, father Roy, brother Glenn, and brother Dale. He is survived by his wife Linda, brother Beryl, daughter Kathy (Jeff) Radcliffe, son Tony McClure, daughter Mary Jo Richardson, daughter Nancy Smith, daughter Janetta (Austin) Graham, and son Brian (Becki) McClure. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.
The Family would like to thank the staff at Park Place Assisted Living, and Wellspring of Cascadia in Nampa for the excellent care they have provided over the last few years.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday March 13, 2021 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Chapel at 7118 Dutchland Parkway, Middletown Ohio at 12 PM and will also be broadcast over zoom. Due to COVID-19, masks are required while in the building.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hodapp Funeral Home at 6410 Cincinnati Dayton Rd, Liberty Township, Ohio.
