William H. Ellis

December 13, 1919 — July 26, 2011

William Harold “Bill”, a lifetime in x-ray. A veteran of the early days at GE Medical Systems and a long time College Hill resident, passed from this life on July 26th, 2011 at his Twin Towers residence. A native of Proctorville, Ohio born December 13, 1919, he was preceded by his wife of more than 60 years, Kathryn Ravenscroft Ellis. The couple is survived by their four children: Jim, Barbara, Marilyn and Kimberly, and by 10 grandchildren, all of whom called him “Poppy.” A member of the greatest generation, Sgt. Ellis was presented with the U.S. Army’s Distinguished Service Award during WWII. Thousands of lives were being saved on the battlefield thanks to a new device Sgt. Ellis and his unit were training medics to use: the portable x-ray machine. After the service, Bill Ellis put his knowledge of x-radiation to work at General Electric Medical Systems where he sold, installed, and serviced x-ray systems for more than 40 years. It was a fitting career for a man who always cared most about what was inside. Visitation at the Twin Towers Wilson Chapel, 5343 Hamilton Ave., College Hill 45224 Friday from 10 AM until service at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Twin Towers Benevolent Fund. Condolences at hodappfuneralhome.com
