William J. died on November 9, 2012 in the tender care of the staff of the Hospice of Cincinnati, with his family at his side, after a long struggle with dementia. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ruth P. (nee Franer), his daughter Mary Cabrera, his sons William M. (Jill) Thurman, Robert Thurman, and Mark (Tamara) Thurman. He was a dedicated and doting grandfather to Elizabeth (Henry) Ahrens, Sharon (Tim) Foley and the late Stephen Heyl; William, Joseph and Frances Thurman; Gregory and Michael Thurman; Christina, John, Mary Kathleen, Paula and Joseph Cabrera. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren. A life-long resident of Cincinnati and the youngest of five siblings, all of whom preceded him in death. He was born on December 28, 1925 to Harry and Mary Jane (nee Coldiron) Thurman. He proudly served in WW II with U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 participating in both the European and Asiatic campaigns. A man of simple means but extraordinary character will be missed by his family. Visitation at the Hodapp Funeral Home 6041 Hamilton Ave., College Hill on Thursday from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Assumption Church, 7711 Joseph Street, Mt. Healthy, at 1:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Hospice of Cincinnati.
