William W. Fitzpatrick

FITZPATRICK, William Way (Bill), 88, long time resident of College Hill, died on Monday, February 25th. Bill was born on December 2, 1930 in White Plains, New York, the son of Philip D. and Dorothy Way Fitzpatrick of Glen Cove, Long Island, New York. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Williams Fitzpatrick and his brother Philip D. Fitzpatrick, Sr. Bill and Marge were married for 59 years. He is survived by two sons, William W. Fitzpatrick, Jr. of Nellysford, Virginia and James W. Fitzpatrick of Cincinnati, along with various cousins, nieces, and a nephew.

Bill grew up in Glen Cove during the Great Depression. His father owned and operated an automobile service station and his mother was employed in a bookstore. It was a time of great economic hardship. His family relocated to Miami, Florida in 1948 in order to find better employment opportunities. Bill became the first person in his family ever to graduate from college when he earned a BBA degree from the University of Miami in 1953. Bill was subsequently employed by the Procter and Gamble Company in Cincinnati, Ohio. During his tenure with P&G Bill served in the U.S. Army, 101st Airborne Division-Korean War campaign and helped lead P&G into the world of modern computers. Later on in his career, Bill designed and developed airline automated passenger processing systems for Eastern Air Lines, including the first computer generated airline ticketing system, became a senior executive for an international charter airline, and initiated a centralized procurement system for Federated Department Stores (Macy’s), where he retired in 1990 as Corporate Director of Purchasing and Travel Services. Bill Spent his retirement years as a management consultant, writer of books and articles about overcoming adversity, advocate for the sick and elderly and a collector of antique Volkswagens.

Visitation at St. Clare Church, 1443 Cedar Avenue, College Hill, 45224 on Saturday, March 9 from 9:30 AM until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM.

The Fitzpatrick family requests any desired charitable donations in Bill’s name be made to The Cincinnati Ronald McDonald House, Bayley Retirement and Wellness Community in Cincinnati , Ohio and The Oley Foundation, Albany, New York.
